Parks Without Posters!

Parks Without Posters!

One of the most inspiring aspects of our national parks is that every person can experience them differently. Whether you’re an avid hiker, birder, painter or graphic designer, each person has the ability to make a unique and personal connection with the outdoors. Sometimes, inspiration comes from traveling distances to our most special places with your loved ones – other times, it’s found in enjoying a solo adventure in your backyard national park. The See America project provides an opportunity for park lovers from across the country and beyond to share these connections with current and future park fans through their art.  And there’s no better time to show your See America love for our more than 400 national parks than during this centennial celebration of our National Park Service.

More than 75 years ago, the U.S. government commissioned artwork to showcase America’s natural wonders under the banner “See America.” The effort was a call for Americans and international tourists to literally get out and “See America” and connect with the best our country had to offer. The national park poster designs remain treasured historic pieces and grace the walls of many park enthusiasts today. Creative Action Network revitalized this effort in 2014, in partnership with National Parks Conservation Association, by launching a crowdsourced art initiative to celebrate – and illustrate – our national parks and historic places. Hundreds of artists have submitted over 1,000 original designs, depicting national parks from Acadia to Zion.  But the artwork for parks list is not complete – we need you!

On August 25th, 2016, The National Park Service (NPS) turns 100 years old.  In celebration, we encourage every artist to get involved to help celebrate. Although we already have See America art for half of our 400+ parks, there are plenty of opportunities for you to be the very first to make a See America poster for the other half.

The rugged beauty of North Cascades National Park or Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, the stories of civil rights told at Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument, and the look into the Ice Age at Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument are all among the places waiting to be brought to new life through your designs. With nearly 200 parks awaiting art, the opportunity to #FindYourPark – and illustrate its beauty – awaits!

So what are you waiting for? Check out the parks list, find your favorite and show us why it inspires you. Click here for more information about submitting art.

We can’t wait to see what you design during this special #NPS100 year and beyond.

Meet Annie Riker, a See America Artist Who Inspired Merrell Shoes & Wyeth Hats!

June 10, 2021

We'd love to tell you about Annie Riker, an artist out of Asheville, North Carolina. She's a surface designer and illustrator who over the years has contributed her national park posters and sticker designs to CAN. This spring her Appalachian Trail design inspired two See America product launches, Merrell trail running shoes and Wyeth hats! Annie is a former Creative Director for the NPCA and we're so grateful that her national park expertise, love of nature, creative spirit and illustration skills landed her in our community where her work can do so much good. You can see Annie's designs online at CAN and be sure to check out her Merrell trail running shoes and Wyeth hat project, too, all helping support Earthjustice organization. We know you'll enjoy reading all about Annie!

We Partnered with Merrell (Again!) on See America Art Inspired Trail Running Shoes

May 27, 2021

Know who loves the outdoors and helping good causes as much as we do? Merrell! We enjoyed our first collaboration with them so much we did it again – introducing a new line of trail running shoes inspired by See America posters of our nation's most celebrated through-hikes, the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail. One part inspiration and one part commemoration, the new shoe collection helps support Earthjustice organization. Integral to this project are the amazing poster designs from artists Brooke FischerJonathan Scheele and Annie Riker, and we hope you really love reading the story of how this project came to be. Huge thanks to Merrell for always being down to party with us in support of a worthy organization, not once but twice!
