Artist Statement

When I first thought about a design for this campaign, the image that came to mind was of a cartoon scene of a gun being plugged and blowing up with the muzzle curdled back like a flower. I wanted to use the hand in a “stop” gesture to imply that the hand could stop a bullet, and like the cartoon gun, the gun has exploded, but in a bouquet of flowers! The flower inspiration is from the '70's when the flower was a symbol of peace and love, “Make love, not war!” The flowers and the sleeve of the stop hand are the safety orange color. Violence with a gun is not the answer! — Lyla Paakkanen
